Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs Celebrates Japan Media Arts Festival 10th Anniversary

Between January 21st and February 2nd, a commemorative exhibition called "Japan's Power of Expression" will be held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Japan Media Art Festival. The celebration event will take place at the newly established national fine arts museum in Roppongi, Tokyo.

Tthe exhibition will be organized into 3 sections. The "Present" looks at the history of "media arts" from 1950 to today. The "Past," going back to the Jomon period (from 10,000 BC to 300 BC), looks at the source of Japan's cultural expression. The "Future" predicts the future of Japan's media arts. Famous anime, manga and games that represent Japan will also be shown, such as Gundam, Uchuu Senkan Yamato, Super Mario Brothers and Pocket Monster. On the 26th at 4:30pm, a symposium will be held with Takehiko Inoue and Gundam director Yoshiyuki Tomino attending as guests.

Also, movie versions of anime masterpieces like Mobile Suit Gundam and Ghost in the Shell, as well as past Media Arts Festival winners, will be screened in specia theaters.

The Japan Media Art Festival is an event sponsored by the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs to promote Japan's new "media arts" of manga, anime, games and CG.
