Viz has announced a new Shojo Beat event -- Macy's Passport 2007 Sweepstakes, where the winners will receive tickets to the Macy's Fashion Inform event taking place on 9/18 in San Francisco and on 9/28 in Los Angeles.

Keiko Takemiya, mangaka of series such as To Terra... and Andromeda Stories, will appear at the Santa Monica Barnes and Noble bookstore on Saturday (9/15) at 3:00 p.m. for a book signing event.

According to the Tezuka: Marvel of Manga Blog, translator and writer Frederik L. Schodt will be giving a talk on Henry Kiyama's The Four Immigrants Manga (Manga Yonin Shosei) on September 13 in San Francisco.

In its latest volume of Manga Curry no Maki, MangaCast's Jack interviews interviews Philip Brody, curator of the exhibition Tezuka: Marvel of Manga. The podcast also looks at Shueisha's new magazine Jump SQ, manga in the Philippines, manga cafe in Manila, and more.

topKumoricon took place on September 1st - 3rd. One of our staff, Sarah, was able to attend the event and return with lots of pictures and reports. Since we aren't known for our convention-reporting skills, we thought we'd try something different.

In our report, you'll find a map for each of the convention floors. Hover your mouse over the map, and pictures taken at that location will pop up. Clicking on the pictures, and a short report may pop up (make sure to enable Javascript!).

The DC Anime Club, an organization whose purpose is to educate the Washington, DC community about East Asian culture through the art form known as Anime (Japanese animation) will host a Marathon of Shoujo (girls)Anime on September 29,2007 from 2pm-5pm at the Martin Luthur King, Jr Memorial Library 901 G St NW Washington, DC 20001 in Room A9.

The Marathon will consist of screenings Girls Anime, Trivia, Prizes and More. For those unfamiliar with Shoujo, Shoujo is a specific genre of Anime and Manga that is aimed at female audience with such themes as romance and drama.

Anime! Anime! reports that a four-day manga festival will take place at the Akihabara Enta Festival between October 25 - October 28. According to ANN, the manga festival will "focus on the international popularity of manga, digital content, copyright issues, and other topics."

Okazu reports that pre-registration for Yuricon's 2007 "Yurisai" event is about to end soon.

Also, the Yurisai Poster and Fanfiction Contests is going to end soon as well. The theme of the contest is "Fairs and Festivals".

theOtaku.com has teamed up with Go! Comi and the organizers (same people behind NY Comic-Con) of the New York Anime Festival to hold the Go! Comi and theOtaku.com Doujinshi Contest. The deadline is November 1, all artists are encouraged to send in their five-page doujinshi based on Go! Comi's Black Sun, Silver Moon by uploading the entry to the New York Anime Festival section of theOtaku.com.
