Chinese Students Fight Back at Death Note Ban

"I am the Death God, and I will curse you and watch you die, let's see if you still have the courage to confiscate Death Note." A telephone message received by an official at Lanzhou city, Gansu Province on May 31st. After some investigation, it was determined that the call was made by a middle school student using the school's public phone.

According to the officials at Lanzhou city, they received around 6 threatening phone calls from middle school students on May 30th (and many more throughout the month) in response to the recent confiscation of Death Note.

"I have confiscated many things before, but this is the first time I received threats on the telephone. It just goes to show what a bad influence this thing called Death Note has on the children. We'll need to increase our regulation on these harmful materials." Remarked the official.

U go kids

The fact that it shows that children are fighting back shows just how retarded the ban and confiscation of the deathnote in china is.

OMG! this does feel like the

OMG! this does feel like the manga! Except death doesnt occur! Kids use the "Death Note" and the police are after them! So in "L's" case, there is more than 1 "Kira". Kira are the kids who use the "Death Note" immitations!

Get what I'm saying???

lol

errrr... I love the death note series but...
Why would anyone want to try to kill anyone with a notebook? Its impossible!
Chinese officials are worrying too much, these kids will find something else to be obsessed with next (erm) year. besides, anyone would love a death note but nobody would quite go as crazy as light.

Like it matters!

Still think death note rocks!

Just an over-reaction... I'm with the Students on this one.

I think the whole idea of banning Death Note is ridiculous.
It's just a notebook. (Well, in Light's case, it wasn't JUST a note book, but that's a whole other topic. x3)
Sure, it's a stupid idea to write gruesome deaths in it of the people you dislike, but it's not like it's ever going to occur unless you take it out yourself... The whole 'Watashi wa Kira desu' note on a corpse in Belguim is just going too far, though.
I think the Chinese Officials are really over-reacting. It's highly unlikely that any of the deaths written (if they're even put in the notebook, that is) would be carried out in real-life. I read on another website about an interview with the students about the ban, and they said that most of them just use the notebooks for schoolwork or something like a diary, or even just bought as a collector's item.
I feel sorry for them about the ban - Death Note's a great manga that a lot of people love. It's not like people haven't tried to copy things from the media before now, so why ban something as genius as Death Note?
I also read that Takeshi Obata has been arrested, and I think that's totally unfair. He's a great manga artist and was only hired to draw out the amazing storyline. Why should he be arrested? It's not his fault. It isn't Tsugumi Ohba's fault that the idea of other people creating a Death Note got out of hand, either.
I agree with the students, and I think that the Death Note ban is just idiotic. It's a pity that the phone calls and all the disagreement and stuff didn't work out for them...

Stupid idea!!

Dude,
These kids obviously feel strongly enough to mimic the anime.
But it doesn't mean that it's a great idea to ban Death Note!
All anime is, is a way for people to express themselves by enjoying something.
If people started copying idea's of the news then would the Chinese police ban that too!?
Think about it people!!

Wow........

Wow, I mean the series is great and all but....kids are really getting over obbsessed with it. It's one thing to become obsessed with....oh say naruto. You might see kids carrying plastic kunai around or wearing shinobi headbands or maybe even styling their hair like the characters; thats a bit obsessive, but not really bad. Doing that kind of stuff with death note is just......I don't know I mean carrying around fake deathnotes and writing peoples names in them pretending you're killing someone with it and thinking it's acually FUN to pretend to kill people in a demonic violent manner is just plain wrong.....seriously; murder becoming a trend? You get the idea right? I guess banning death note was a bit too harsh; but come on. You guys can't be saying "LIEK ZOMG! THIS IS SOOOOOOO UNFAIR! PPL R JUST OVURREACTING!!! THIS IS IN EVERY POSSIBLE WAY A STOOPID IDEA!!!". I guess that ban was too harsh but hey; they have a point. You can't have kids getting turned into homocidal demons cause of an anime/manga series.

I guess I'll give my opinion. I think the ban should be lifted, but as long as kids don't go crazy over it. Then again; how should I know? i don't live in china anyway.

P.S. Ok, I'm not some dumb restrictive adult, I'm just a kid I like death note and don't want it banned, but I don't want the world to be scarred for life.

P.S.S. don't insult me cause of my opinion. You don't want to see me on my bad side.....

Ah dude let them have there

Ah dude let them have there fun its a way to vent there anger and i disagree with any one against it even all of china [not in china btw] i mean even if stuff like that with a kira did happen i would support him he had the right idea and if kids want to be posers of him let them it wont hurt anyone

lol oh god

this is like the 10th time
I heard something like this happening. idk am on neither side
on this one.....they are being way to harsh on banning
deathnote (a non realistic show)just cause some kids were making prank calls
and what not. that's just fricken stupid..but then again I agree with some
of you guys ,that nobody wants there child to become a pyshco pathetic murder 0_0 but that's just really unreasonable for banning such an amazing anime...but who cares!! I dont life
in china =P. maybe there parents should be the ones
to blame...I know I sound like an old lady (am actually 15) but damn it's true, those chinese kids
just sound dilasonal, and they need to get back to damn reality!!

Seriously..?

Okay, I personally beileve that the government overreacted to Death Note, for it's just a popular anime that became a fad. I'm a bit concerned over the phone calls, but still, they're doing that only because they are enraged over the ban and they want the government to know how much this show means to them. I'm a fan of the show myself, and if you haven't watched the entire thing, you should know that the protagonist dies due to his wrong deeds throughout the series. It's just an anime, people, it won't turn people into homocidal retards, and if the government has a problem with Death Note, why haven't they had any problems with all of the other anime in the world!?
This whole ban is the most idiotic thing I've ever heard of, because it firstly ignores the fact that people have the right to watch whatever they want to, and the second reason because it's just a cartoon that has become a fad. The government is misunderstanding these events happening now that Death Note has been banned, for the students are only trying to express how much they think this is unfair. Finally, the end of this long rant/lecture to those who think the ban is a good thing.

P.S. I'm not a stupid restrictive adult either, and since I'm a fellow fan of Death Note, I don't want it to be banned in any country.

...i own one

I personally own a death note, well three actually...one my friend made me, one I made and a prop one that looks like the real thing. Teachers have seen it in my hand and have said nothing. Death Note is a harmless show that needs to be left alone. And for those dumb kids to do that is just retarded. That is why the show is for older teens not middle not elementary. I just dun understand what would drive these kids to do that. It's not like Ryuk or Rem will pop out and say "hey" outta nowhere. ITS NOT REAL. DEAL WITH IT. And if your DeathNote should have names dun keep it in a place where they can get you arrested for it...please. I mean what would happen if suddenly I attend a con and I can't take my Death Note? See? And I mean I cosplay Raito and L soo...quit being stupid kiddies and keep your written deathnotes at home :)

death note is harmless

the government ban on death note is ridiculous. what it all comes down to is that chinese authorities dont want to have their society viewed like that. because they are fucking COMMUNISTS. the few in power dont care about their people, they only care about being a super power, and their damn egos and money. but hey, thats fine with me. the truth is religion and death note are harmless. the death note culture and what they dont understand is what scares them. FUCK CHINA AND FUCK CHINESE COMMUNISTS look at the difference between north and south korea, like day and night. SHIT DOESNT WORK FUCK CHINA they know that freedom would make their country better off but they dont care, they like the power to impose their will onto others. thats all it is, trust me the youths best interests are not in mind only their own. FUCK CHINA

China's over-reacting

considering it is scientifically impossible to kill a person by only writing their name in a book, and by having their face pictured in your mind i believe the ban on death note is an over-reaction to a contraversioal story. i can understand China's worries because Death Note does acknowledge the "grey areas" of justice and questions what are considered to be good morals: therefore maybe making people question the country's justice system, causing conflict. however, i believe this most likely wouldn't happen due to the fact the fan base of Death Note is mainly consists of teenagers, and, no affence intended, it is probably just a phase and the Death Note craze will eventually die out.
