Third Japanese Guest At AnimeNEXT 2006

AnimeNEXT is very proud to be able to bring attendees three Japanese Guests of Honor this year. Our third Guest of Honor is Harold Sakuishi. Mr. Sakuishi is storming the states with BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad, his manga about what it means to be a teenager, but more importantly, what it means to ROCK!!! With BECK, Sakuishi has displayed a keen sense for crafting characters that generate an emotional resonance with his readers. Through his detailed storytelling and sitcom like set-up, it’s hard not to connect to the main characters, Koyuki, Ryusuke, their band, and their friends. Sakuishi'€™s love for music and pop-culture globally can be felt throughout the series and specifically through the chapter covers in BECK that parody famous rock album covers.

Mr. Sakuishi has a wide variety of interests that include baseball (Huge Chunichi Dragons fan), martial arts (Loves pro wrestling), and music. Each of these has become the basis for his most popular series (Baseball in Stopper Busujima, fighting in Bakaichi, and music in BECK). His series also often include character cameos from his past works; one of the newspaper reporters in BECK is actually from Stopper Busujima and so on.

This is Mr. Sakuishi’s first visit to the U.S. and we'€™re proud to welcome him to AnimeNEXT 2006! To find out more about Harold Sakuishi please visit the AnimeNEXT web site’s Guest Page at http://www.animenext.org/guests.
