Starting 7/20, Nippon TV will make the first 10 minutes of the first Death Note movie available on its online pay-per-view program, Second Nippon Television Network, for free. The Windows Media Player video will be available in 500kbps and 1Mbps, visitors will have to register to watch.

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of its annual Osamu Tezuka Cultural Award event, and the many manga artist and judges involved, Asahi Shimbun will be hosting the Osamu Tezuka Cultural Award 10th Anniversary event, "Manga Mirai Seiki " (Literally: Manga Future Century), on 9/10 at the Yurakucho Asahi Hall.

Past award winners, nominees, judges, and other manga artists will take part in the event. The event has three sections, which will feature and discuss the history of the Tezuka award, the future and potential of manga, and an "art showdown" between artists.

According to Del Rey's July newsletter, Ali Kokmen, CPM's former Director of Book Sales, is now Del Rey's new Manga Marketing Manager.

Yuki Urushibara's popular comic "Mushishi" (serialized in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon Magazine, recently licensed in North American by Del Rey) will be adapted into a live-action film starring Jo Odagiri. The director will be Katsuhiro Otomo of AKIRA fame.
