On July 7th, a special manga, anime, and pop culture event called "Blast Off!" will take place at the Asian Art Museum in conjunction to the exhibition Tezuka: The Marvel of Manga:

Don't miss the Asian Art Museum's manga (Japanese comics), anime (animation), and pop culture extravaganza. With a rocket-fueled schedule offering everything from cosplay ("costume play") and music to art activities and Dance Dance Revolution, aficionados and amateurs of all ages and inclinations will have a blast.

Visitors will also have a chance to check out special exhibitions Tezuka:The Marvel of Manga and Yoshitoshi's Strange Tales.

topThe Japan Football Museum announced that a special Captain Tsubasa Exhibition hosted by Captain Tsubasa creator Yoichi Takahashi and Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump will start on July 21st. The exhibition's theme will be "Everyone was once a 'Captain Tsubasa.'"

The exhibition, held at the special exhibition zone on floor B2, is directed toward the Beijing 2008 Olympic, and aims to support the Beijing Olympic Games - Asian preliminary round "with the 'help' of Captain Tsubasa's protagonist Tsubasa Oozora." Adult entrance is 500 yen and 300 yen for elementary to middle school students.

topEarlier this year, Sirou Tunasima's mecha manga Jinki: Extend was dropped from Mag Garden's Comic Blade due to conflicts between Tunasima and the magazine's Editor-in-Chief. Since then Tunasima has confirmed that more than 10 publishers offered to continue carry Jinki: Extend.

Today Chuosha announced that Jinki: Extend will continue in MediaWork's Dengeki Moeoh. While no official date has been given for when the series will resume serialization, starting with the August issue Dengeki Moeoh will run special illustrations from Tunasima for three issues.

Asahi.com reports that the NPO Kotoba no Atelier has started a new Tokiwa-so project to rent low-cost housing to young manga artists:

The NPO rented four old houses in Tokyo to accommodate young cartoonists. Rents in the communal homes run from 30,000 yen to 50,000 yen a month, including utilities and Internet fees. The artists sign yearly contracts, renewable for three years.
